davao '02

found some old photos of my home city, davao, in a forgotten envelope. i took these when i was on vacation. still a struggling art student. no career. not sure of the future. just full of ideas.

i liked how these photos came out. the color & that authentic grainy look. no edits. just some awkward crops to show what i was really looking at.

made me wish i took these on old polaroids scratched up by time. because that's how i see these now. a time machine on pulp. they may only be 6 years old, but so much has happened since then. to me, they might as well be decades old.

these pics are great. i like the grainy look and the blueish gray tint. makes it look a lot older than they really are. powerful images.

thanks for stop'n by my blog. the current job i am working on is forcing me to design a lot of background layouts and interior shots. i will post more layouts in the future. mix it up with the characters.

hi blogie -
thanks for stopping by. yes, the city is changing at a rapid pace.
i like that the city is developing, but there are some things i'd like to remain the same ... like less billboards (where's my mt apo view?) & samal island being somewhat untouched (i'm not a fan of the bridge proj).

hey friend, I hope you keep all your old pictures of Davao...bring it out after 20 or 30 years, and they're called 'treasures!'.

hi nostalgia - thanks for the tip. the pics are neatly placed in my photo reference files.
you're right. in few years, they'd be labelled "old davao" pictures.

Hi Macky - great old photos. Was the Samal Casino Resort on Samal Island. Is it still there?

Thanks for sharing these.

Hi Randy - glad you enjoyed the photos. Funny, but I didn't notice that sign until you mentioned it.

That's the defunct multi-billion peso Malaysian casino. More commonly known as the Ekran Berhad. I've actually never seen it, but those who have were not too impressed with the design.

You'll be intrigued to know that there is talk of re-opening the casino.
